What Is A Sagging Face?
A sagging face usually describes the look of loose skin around the eyes, mid and lower face. This concern can give the face a tired and worn look as skin that was once firm, full and well supported by its underlying structure, starts to lose volume and strength. Weak skin then starts to look as though it is descending towards the jawline and neck, which also changes the natural contouring and definition of the facial features. A sagging face can also be affected by lines and wrinkles and facial volume loss.
What Causes A Sagging Face?
It is commonly the ageing process that leads to the appearance of a sagging face. A range changes occur in the skin and tissues of the face as a person gets older which becomes visible over time. From around mid-twenties we start to lose collagen at a rate of up to 1.5% annually, increasing by up to 6x when the menopause happens in women. This leads to skin which is duller, with increased lines and wrinkles, larger pores, pigmentation and skin that is less elastic. Over time we also lose fat in the face in favourable areas such as the temples and cheeks and they start to descend downwards causing common folds and shadows on the face such as from the tear trough and across the cheek, nasolabial lines and marionette lines. Certain fat pads that worsen the appearance of a sagging face increase in size, such as the eye bags, above the nasolabial fold, jowl and double chin area. This varies depending on BMI and genetic variation, however, regardless of gender, age and ethnicity, over time, everyone will start to notice some effects of a sagging face to varying degrees.
How Can It Be Treated?
As the cause of a sagging face is multifactorial, our approach at Takroni Clinic to improve the appearance of a sagging face is very bespoke and often combines various treatments from our menu for the most natural but impactful results. Our clinicians will be able to help by restoring volume in favourable areas of the face where there has been volume loss such as the temples, tear trough, midface or cheek area. They are also able to help define a jawline or smooth the appearance of shadows in the lower face with dermal filler used in the nasolabial lines, chin and jawline. Antiwrinkle treatments can help to improve the appearance of the upper face for a more refreshed result. Profhilo, polynucleotides and skin smoothing boosters can work to effectively improve the overall result and skin condition.
Our therapists will work with you to stimulate collagen in the skin improving lines and wrinkles, hydrating and tightening the appearance of your skin.
