What Is Cellulite?
Cellulite appears as dimpled, lumpy skin, sometimes described as ‘orange peel’ skin, primarily on the thighs, buttocks, upper arms and abdomen. It results from fat deposits pushing against connective tissue under the skin, causing the skin to pucker. Cellulite can detract from smooth skin texture, creating an uneven appearance but it is entirely natural and affects most women and occasionally men no matter their body size. Its presence may lead to self-consciousness and negatively impact one’s aesthetic perception, contributing to feelings of dissatisfaction with body image and overall appearance.
What Causes Cellulite?
Cellulite results from a combination of factors, including genetics, hormonal changes, and lifestyle habits. Fibrous bands under the skin tethering it to deeper tissues can pull down on fat cells, creating the characteristic dimpled appearance. Hormonal fluctuations, particularly oestrogen, play a role in the way fat is distributed around the body and collagen production, affecting skin elasticity. Whilst cellulite isn’t necessarily a weight-related concern and can affect people of all builds, weight gain can exacerbate cellulite by enlarging fat cells. Additionally, poor circulation and lymphatic drainage can contribute to fluid retention and tissue inflammation, enhancing the appearance of cellulite. While not harmful, cellulite can be influenced by factors like age, gender, and genetics, making it a common concern for individuals seeking smoother skin texture and improved aesthetic appearance.
How Can I Treat Cellulite?
Morpheus8 can be used on various areas of the face and body to help improve the condition of the skin by creating controlled trauma in the area and your body responding with the production of collagen and elastin. It can also be used at deeper depths and higher energies in specific areas such as the jowl and double chin area to help to contract unwanted fat pads and create a tightening effect of the skin. Common concerns that Morpheus8 treats include: loose / sagging skin on the face and body, lines and wrinkles, acne scarring, and as part of a treatment plan often combined with other treatments such as Profhilo or dermal fillers to restore a youthful appearance to the face or body.
During 3DBody RF Tightening, a handheld device delivers radiofrequency energy to target areas, heating the deeper layers of the skin-the dermis. An ultrasound gel is first applied to act as a conductor for the RF energy and the handpiece will gradually get warm until it reaches 40C. Once the correct temperature has been reached, your senior therapist will continue treatment in that area for 2-4 minutes before moving onto the next area. This stimulates collagen production, tightening tissues and improving skin elasticity. Heat energy can also work to break down small amounts of fat beneath the skin, which may be contributing to cellulite. The procedure is non-invasive, typically requiring multiple sessions (8-10) for optimal results.
